EFFURUN/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured residents of Warri and Effurun of the early completion of the ongoing flyover projects and road dualisation works in the metropolis, expressing optimism that the projects would be delivered within the dry season.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction flyovers, as well as the reconstruction of a section of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road, the governor said the pace and quality of work gave him confidence that the three flyovers and the dualised road would be completed on schedule.
“You can see the level of work going on. By this dry season, they should be able to complete the three flyovers and the dualisation. Everything is going on well; there is nothing to worry about,” Oborevwori said.
He disclosed that he had appealed to the construction firm handling the projects, Julius Berger, to temporarily open strategic sections of the flyovers during the Christmas and New Year festivities to ease traffic congestion in the area.
“I appealed to Julius Berger that because of Christmas and New Year, they should ensure the flyovers are temporarily opened for use, because these areas are very important to the people,” he said.
The governor acknowledged the inconvenience residents, traders and motorists had endured for over a year due to the construction works but noted that the temporary opening of sections of the flyovers had already brought noticeable relief.
“I know what the people have gone through, and I feel their pain. But when there is pain, there will be enjoyment at the end of the project. The Warri and Effurun people are very happy, as you can see,” he added.
Oborevwori explained that one side of the Enerhen Junction flyover was almost completed and had been opened for temporary use, while both sides of the DSC Roundabout flyover were also opened to traffic for the festive period to reduce the usual gridlock in the area.
“Before now, Enerhen had become something else, but what we are seeing today is different. This is what we want to do for the people of Warri and Effurun,” he said.
Following the governor’s walk-through of the project sites, residents, traders and motorists trooped out in jubilation, showering him with praises and describing him as a people-oriented leader whose interventions were transforming the Warri–Effurun metropolis.
Many of the residents assured the governor of their continued support, prayers and goodwill as he works to improve infrastructure across the state.
The governor also commended Julius Berger for the quality of work being delivered, noting that only a few states in the country had the capacity to engage the construction giant for projects of such scale and standard.
In his Christmas message to Deltans, Oborevwori said peace continued to prevail across the state. “There is peace everywhere. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. God bless you all,” he said.
