ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has renewed his call for inclusive governance and stronger policy engagement, urging members of the State Advisory Council to play a more active role in shaping decisions and sustaining peace across the state.

At a meeting of the council held at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, the governor emphasised the importance of timely and practical advisory input, noting that the council remains a key institution in guiding governance and evaluating policy direction.

Oborevwori commended the council, led by Samuel Oyovbaire, for its consistent contributions, describing it as a vital pillar in the administration’s decision-making process.

The governor, who recently returned from Lagos where he delivered a lecture on inclusive governance and national unity, said Delta State continues to serve as a model of diversity and accommodation, with policies that promote fairness across ethnic and social lines.

He stressed that development can only be sustained in an environment of unity, urging leaders and stakeholders to prioritise collective interest over sectional considerations.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the governor to mourn the passing of former Deputy Governor, Sir Benjamin Elue, whom he described as a committed public servant whose legacy would endure.

Oborevwori urged council members to intensify their engagement by submitting more frequent and solution-driven reports, explaining that such feedback is essential for tracking government performance and refining policies.

“At this stage of our governance journey, your reports are critical. They help us understand where we are succeeding and where improvements are needed,” he said.

He further charged the council to play a constructive role in the political process, particularly during ongoing primaries, by promoting leadership based on competence, integrity and capacity.

Highlighting the role of perception in governance, the governor called on leaders to project a balanced narrative about the state and the country, while responsibly addressing existing challenges.

He encouraged council members to expand their reach beyond formal discussions by engaging communities at the grassroots level to better reflect local realities in their recommendations.

Oborevwori also called for an objective assessment of his administration as it approaches three years in office, stressing that governance should be judged by tangible outcomes and public impact.

Reaffirming his leadership philosophy, he pledged to continue governing with humility and a commitment to unity, noting that effective leadership requires listening, inclusiveness and the ability to inspire confidence.

He expressed appreciation to the council for its continued support, assuring members of his administration’s determination to build a more inclusive and prosperous Delta State.
