Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation Purchases 100 Health Insurance Premiums for Indigent Members of Onicha Olona Community

ONICHA OLONA/Nigeria: Executives of the Oganishu Umu Ogbekenu Foundation in Onicha Olona, an agrarian community in Aniocha North local government area, have made a significant impact on their community by purchasing 100 health insurance premiums for its indigenes. This initiative falls under the auspices of the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission.

The executives of the Foundation were presented with the identity cards issued to the enrollees by the Director-General of the commission, Olorogun Dr. Isaac Akpoveta. This presentation, which took place in Onicha Olona, marked a crucial step in providing healthcare access to those in need within the community.

Dr. Isaac Akpoveta expressed his excitement at the addition of these 100 individuals to the healthcare scheme, emphasizing that the initiative, spearheaded by former governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, aims to extend healthcare benefits to all Deltans. He commended the Oganishu Foundation for setting an example for other communities to follow, highlighting the importance of solidarity and community support in providing essential health services to vulnerable members of society.

In his address to the community, Dr. Akpoveta emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental human right that should be accessible to all, regardless of socio-economic status. He praised the commission’s progress since its establishment in 2016, noting that programs such as the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Program (TISHIP) and the Artisan Enrollee Inducement Initiative have significantly improved access to quality healthcare across the state.

The Director-General of the Oganishu foundation, Mr. Anthony Chukwugozi Mondugwe, explained that while the foundation’s plan is to register 1000 individual community members, registering the initial 100 was a test of the commission’s commitment to its promises. He also commended the commission’s dedication, noting that their gesture was more cost-effective than traditional expenses like buying cows for burial ceremonies.

Chairman of the governing board of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Austin Obidi, reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing better healthcare access to all Deltans through the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He emphasized that enrollees’ satisfaction remains a top priority for the commission and the hospitals management board.

Members of the community, including men and women, expressed their appreciation for the initiatives, commending the State Government and the management of Delta State Contributory Health Commission for their efforts to improve healthcare access in the area.
