AGBOR/Nigeria: Supporters backing the 2027 senatorial bid of former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, have stepped up grassroots mobilisation in parts of Delta North, with an affiliate group declaring support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the general elections.
The latest mobilisation followed a visit by members of Ndokwa-Ukwuani for Hilary (Ika Chapter), led by Comrade Okonji Jerry, to the residence of Dr Hilary Obi Ibegbulem on Sunday, September 6.
During the meeting, the group declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s second-term bid and Okowa’s return to the Senate. The group also pledged support for APC candidates contesting the House of Representatives and Delta State House of Assembly seats in the Ika area.
Okonji said the group was prepared to mobilise voters at the grassroots in support of the party’s candidates.
Responding, Ibegbulem thanked the delegation for its commitment and urged members to remain focused as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather pace.
The mobilisation later shifted to Mbiri in Ward 12 of Ika North-East, where Okowa was received by supporters and APC stakeholders. Ibegbulem accompanied the former governor on the visit.
The Mbiri gathering also featured the launch of a councillor’s empowerment programme, under which 200 constituents were provided with support materials and resources.
The organisers said similar empowerment activities would be extended to other communities in Ika North-East and across Delta North.
Okowa is already the APC’s candidate for the Delta North senatorial election after winning the party’s May 2026 primary with 113,309 votes, according to results announced by the party’s returning officer. Senator Ned Nwoko polled 2,612 votes, while Maryam Ali received 40 votes.
The latest mobilisation therefore adds another layer to the political activity surrounding Okowa’s candidacy, with support groups seeking to take the campaign message to communities across the district.
