ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties (Government House), Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, has congratulated prominent Niger Delta leader, High Chief (Dr.) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on the occasion of his 55th birthday, describing him as a towering figure whose legacy of courage and sacrifice continues to inspire the region and the nation.
In a goodwill message personally signed by Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, the Commissioner extolled Tompolo’s resilience, leadership and cultural pride, noting that his lifelong commitment to addressing the challenges of under-development, environmental degradation and economic marginalisation in the Niger Delta has defined him as a symbol of hope and advocacy.
Osuoza said Tompolo’s role in championing the cause of the Niger Delta people has not only amplified their voices but also strengthened their place within the Nigerian federation.
“Your steadfast commitment to redressing the long-standing challenges of under-development, economic servitude, and environmental degradation in the Niger Delta stands as a defining legacy of sacrifice and leadership,” he said.
He added that the ex-militant leader has, through personal sacrifices and unwavering dedication, contributed significantly to peacebuilding and the restoration of dignity in the region.
“You have not only carried the burden of a people’s struggle, but have also emerged as a repository of their hopes, identity, and collective aspirations,” Osuoza stated.
The Commissioner further noted that Tompolo’s influence transcends the Niger Delta, describing him as a national figure whose impact remains far-reaching and enduring.
“Through your courage, personal sacrifices, and deep love for your people, you have helped to engender peace, restore dignity, and secure a stronger voice for the Niger Delta within the Nigerian federation,” he said.
Osuoza emphasised that the milestone birthday offers an opportunity to celebrate not just the years of the celebrant, but his journey, convictions and the significant contributions he has made to society.
“You are indeed a blessing to the Ijaw nation, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
