ASABA/Nigeria: Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has been honoured with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Urhobo nation and his commitment to public service.
The honour was conferred by the Urhobo Catholic Community of St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church during the Urhobo Cultural Day celebration and the formal welcome of His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, to the Asaba Region.
The colourful event, held in December 2025 in Asaba, Delta State, was themed “Urhobo: Our Culture, Our Pride,” and brought together prominent sons and daughters of Urhobo land, religious leaders and members of the Catholic faithful.
Presenting the award, the organisers commended Senator Dafinone for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of the Urhobo people and his continued efforts to facilitate meaningful development projects across communities within the Delta Central Senatorial District.
They noted that the lawmaker has remained a strong voice for the interests of his constituents and the broader Urhobo nation through his legislative activities and advocacy for inclusive development.
In his response, Senator Dafinone expressed appreciation to the Urhobo Catholic Community for the honour, describing the recognition as a source of renewed motivation to continue serving the people.
According to him, the award further strengthens his resolve to work tirelessly for the unity, progress and cultural preservation of the Urhobo nation.
The senator also acknowledged the privilege of being honoured alongside other distinguished personalities, including His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, Author Akpowowo, Fred Majemite and Paul Evuarherhe.
He described the recognition as both humbling and inspiring, assuring that he would remain committed to initiatives that promote the socio-economic advancement and cultural pride of the Urhobo people.
