ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has saluted workers across the state and Nigeria on the 2026 Workers’ Day, acknowledging their central role in driving economic growth and sustaining public service delivery.
In his May Day message, the governor described the annual celebration as a moment not just for recognition but for renewed commitment to policies that prioritise workers’ welfare, dignity and productivity.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Oborevwori commended employees in both public and private sectors, including civil servants, teachers, healthcare professionals, artisans, farmers and entrepreneurs, for their consistent contributions to the development of the state.
“I join Deltans and Nigerians across the country in celebrating our diligent and resilient workforce. You remain the backbone of our development, and I salute your commitment and sacrifices,” the governor said.
He highlighted key achievements under his administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, pointing to regular payment of salaries and pensions, clearance of pension arrears, ongoing recruitment in the health sector, and sustained investment in capacity-building programmes to improve service efficiency.
The governor also referenced efforts to improve working conditions, including the rehabilitation of public infrastructure, upgrades in healthcare facilities and the renovation of schools to enhance productivity and service delivery.
He noted that targeted entrepreneurship initiatives have provided support for artisans and small-scale businesses, while continued investment in roads, bridges and markets is helping to boost commerce and ease movement across the state.
Oborevwori further stressed that agricultural development remains a priority, with programmes aimed at increasing food production, strengthening food security and stabilising market prices.
He added that governance reforms under his administration are designed to promote transparency, accountability and inclusiveness, ensuring that workers’ interests are adequately represented in policy decisions.
The governor urged workers to remain committed to excellence, discipline and unity, noting that collective effort remains essential to achieving sustainable development in the state.
“Together, we will build a stronger, more prosperous future for our state,” he added.
