ASABA/Nigeria: The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has completed the written examination phase of its ongoing recruitment exercise in Delta State, with all 1,872 shortlisted candidates participating in the process.
The exercise forms part of a nationwide recruitment drive approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at enlisting 50,000 police constables to strengthen security architecture across the country.
Conducted between April 28 and 30 at the Dome Event Centre, the examination was held under tight security and strict supervision, with officials of the PSC and the Force Headquarters overseeing proceedings to ensure compliance with established standards.
The monitoring team was led by Barr. Anthonnette Ofugare alongside DCP Rita Emesim from Abuja, as authorities maintained close oversight throughout the exercise.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, who made an unscheduled visit to the venue on the opening day, expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct, describing the process as seamless and well-coordinated.
He also acknowledged the role of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in setting up a standing committee to support youth enlistment into security services, noting that the initiative has strengthened participation and organisation at the state level.
Candidates who spoke after the examination commended the transparency of the process, describing it as fair and free from irregularities, while expressing confidence in their performance.
Providing further insight, Fred Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Acting Chairman of the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services, described the exercise as credible and peaceful.
He expressed optimism that Delta State would meet its quota of 1,351 recruits at the end of the process, adding that successful candidates would proceed to the medical screening stage.
Oghenesivbe noted that the committee would intensify sensitisation efforts to encourage more youths to explore career opportunities in the military and paramilitary services.
He also commended the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, for his support, which he said has enhanced the effectiveness of the committee.
Participants were drawn from all 25 local government areas of the state, reflecting widespread interest and inclusive representation in the recruitment exercise.
The examination marks a critical phase in the broader effort to reinforce policing capacity nationwide through a merit-driven and transparent recruitment system.
