Clergy Slams Nigerian Democracy At 21

ASABA/Nigeria: As Nigeria celebrated 21 years under of civilian rules, the State Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria PFN, Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi said that democracy has not taken us far, saying the country could not fix electricity, road and security.
Bishop Enakirerhi who thank God for His grace and mercy upon the nation, said the inability of the leaders to work on these three dismal areas have made democracy a failure in the country.
“Democracy has not taken us anywhere. We have not really practice democracy as it aught to be. Democracy can only be seen as working, if they can fix electricity, roads and security,” he stressed.
He said the mindset of our politicians who see politics as a means of acquiring wealth illegally and using political power to punish and suppress opposition has affected our democracy negatively.
Bishop Enakirerhi urged our political leaders to emulate America where we copied democracy from and use it to better the living standard of Nigerians.
Suggesting the way forward, Bishop Enakirerhi said the country should be restructured so that states can develop and pay workers’ salaries according to their financial ability.
He advised Nigerians, especially politicians to shun the do or die, and the winner-takes-it-all type of politics where only Political Party members are considered for appointment without looking at the principle of competence and performance.
Bishop Enakirerhi also advised Nigerians to do away with religious bigotry and allow freedom of speech to be fully practice in the country.
