2023 DTHA: Marilyn Okowa, Igrakpata, Dafe Others Wins Ticket

ASABA/Nigeria: Barr. Marilyn Okowa Daramola, the Daughter of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa emerged as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Delta State House Assembly to represent Ika North East constituency.

Declaring her winner, the Returning Officer Pastor Powell Tos Ojogho said ” 44 votes were cast, all Votes valid.

“I Pastor Powell Tos Ojogho hereby declare Marilyn Okowa as the winner of the House of Assembly, Ika North East primary election.

Earlier in his remarks, the Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC) Rev. Tom Udoh noted that he was there to monitor the exercise.

Ika North East chapter PDP has has only one candidate and we are here to ensure that no variance of any kind.

While saying that primary election will hold in Delta State as scheduled, said” President Buhari did reverse the electoral law as been speculated on social media. The rumors could not be traced to any authentic source” he argued.

Also speaking, Barr. Marilyn Okowa Daramola appreciated the leadership of the party.

“I consider this a great privilege, I will put to bear the experience I have gathered from the several roles I have played in my previous offices in the state”

“I promise not to disappoint the people of Ika North East, my agenda is to put the people first and that I will do” she stated.

In Uvwie and Warri South Local Government Areas the incumbent members retained their tickets, in primaries that were very orderly.

In Uvwie, the exercise was conducted at the secretariat of Uvwie Local Government Council.

The incumbent member representing Uvwie State Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Solomon Okporua Ighrakpata came first with eighteen votes. He was followed by Chief Tony Ofoni with thirteen votes who was followed by Chief Bernard Onobia with one vote.

The Returning Officer in Primaries, Dr Kingsley Emu who spoke to our correspondent on the exercise, remarked that it was peaceful and orderly and that everybody was happy about it.

There was heavy presence of no nonsense combined government security agents in the local government council premises and environment, before, during and after the primaries.

An elated Chief Ighrakpata who spoke to newsmen in a brief chat shortly after he was declared the winner of the contest, dedicated his victory to God.

While commending the other contenders for putting up a good fight, he enjoined them to join hands with him in the 2023 general elections in the interest of PDP and Uvwie people.

He expressed delight over the orderly and peaceful conduct of the primaries.

The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to the Uvwie people as he promised to continue to do his best for them.

The exercise for Warri South Constituency 11 was conducted at Ojojo Primary School (opposite Alele Military Based) by Sacred Heart Cathedral, Warri.

The incumbent member representing the constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Mathew Poko Opuoru was declared the winner with 10 votes, followed by the incumbent Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi with 6 votes and Muobo Bazunu came third with 4 votes.

Meanwhile there was jubilation in most of the wards in the constituency visited by our correspondent shortly after the results were announced.

An Executive Assistant (EA) to Governor Okowa on Political Matters Chief Westham Adehor described the victory of Hon Opuoru as the verdict of God.

While the Oghwuvwie of Agbarha Warri Community (the residence of Dr Tidi} of Edjeba, Chief Ricard Akpor Okoro spoke in the same vein.

He noted Hon Opuoru was the people’s choice and that he deserved a second tenure owing to his performances.

Similarly in Warri North Local Government Area,  honourable member for  Warri North Constituency, Honourable Fred Martins clinching the ticket to run for the party in the 2023 general elections.

Following the intense campaigns and consultations by other candidates vying for the position, the newly emerged PDP candidate for Warri North Constituency seat victory at the just concluded primaries is indeed resounding.

The twenty five (25) votes he garnered from the votes cast by the thirty two (32) Ad-hoc delegates from the different wards in the local government is indeed an indication of his commitment to the people of the Warri North Constituency.

Another frontline contender for the seat, Comrade Orode Uduaghan was able to secure 7 votes in all the votes cast.

However, in Sapele local Government Area, the incumbent was defeated by Mr Perkins Umukoro.

The Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba led PDP House of Assembly Primary committee conducted the exercise at the Sapele township stadium. The exercise which began at 11:30am on Sunday morning, the 22nd Of May, 2022.

Perkins Umukoro defeated 5 other Aspirants to emerge the PDP Candidate for next year House of Assembly General election. Perkins Umukoro polled a total of 22 votes to win the House of Assembly ticket of the PDP in Sapele Local Government.

Hon Felix Anirah came second with 9 votes, Ighoyota Lucky came third with 2 votes, why Randy Okotie and Hon Festus Pemu  score 1 vote each and Emmanuel Omouvie score zero vote.

Prior to the voting, delegates were accredited at the Sapele local Government Secretariats, from where they were conveyed to the Sapele Township Stadium.

Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba, said total vote cast were 35, total valid votes were 35 and a total of zero invalid votes were recorded.

Prince Emmanuel, who declared Perkins Umukoro winner of the poll said he scored 22 votes to win the political contest.

In Udu local government area Hon.  JITE Brown emerged winner of the People Democratic Party (PDP)   UDU constituency.

The primary, which took place at the Ovwian Police station today 22nd May was a peaceful one as delegates cast their votes to the party members of their choice.

Jite Brown poll 15 votes while his close opponent Hon.  Donald Brosu poll 13 votes while Saturday Mofoye, Hon.  Peter Okagbara Oviejitobor, and Hon.  karo Goru  had 1 vote respectively.

Hon.  Jite Brown thanked all PDP Udu delegates for their collective votes stating that a win for him was also a win for the party.

The People’s Democratic Party held its primaries for the state House of Assembly for Ughelli North Local Government constituencies 1 and 2, as well as the House of Representatives for the Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency.

For Ughelli North constituency 1, six aspirants jostled for the position in which Mr Jimmy Idiovwa pulled seven votes to defeat other aspirants while Mr Kelly Oghenekevwe got five votes to come second. Others are Kenneth Ibru 2 votes, Christabel 2 vote and Jegede 1 vote.

At Ughelli North constituency 2, held at the Ughelli township stadium, Hon. Onoriode Agofure pulled a total number of 10 votes to defeat the incumbent, Hon. Henry Oharisi who got 5 votes.

Similarly, the PDP primaries for the Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu federal constituency was also held at the Ughelli township stadium with Hon. Talib Tebite pulling a total of 34 votes to defeat other six aspirants.

Hon. Solomon Awhinawhin got 30 votes to come second while Hon. Samuel Mariere got 26 votes to come third.

Speaking to newsmen after the victory, Hon Talib Tebite commended the governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for giving free hand and equal opportunity to all the aspirants in a free and fair contest.

Tebite who was filled with joy also commended the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), and other aspirants for the maturity displayed during the primaries, just as he solicited for their support during the 2023 general election.

Tebite added that the other aspirants were happy with him and have congratulated him for the victory.

The primaries was conducted under the watchful eyes of security men, party faithful, and in a peaceful atmosphere as all the aspirants displayed maturity during the primaries.

In Ukwuani Local Government Area, Mr. Chukwudi Dafe defeated 4 other aspirants to clinch the ticket with 12 votes, with his closets rival Dr. Samuel Ossai getting 9 votes. In Ndokwa West Hon Charles Emetulu retained his ticket, while in Ndokwa East Mr Emeka Osawuta won the ticket.
