NNU Set to Pursue the Ndokwa course – President-General

The President-General of the Ndokwa National Union, (NNU) , Pharm Paul O. Enebeli in a press briefing held in Asaba, had given details of the expectations of the Ndokwa people during and after the Biennial Conference coming up 27 and 28 December 2013.

 In a three page text briefing, which was interjected with more explanation, the President-General stated that the conference will provide opportunity for Ndokwa people to appraise their position in the political terrain of Delta State and Nigeria as the race to the 2015 General Election approaches, and the incumbent administration of Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan winds up its eight years tenure.

 

Speaking further, he highlighted some of the activities packaged by the Local Organising Committee (LOC), headed by General Mike Ndubisi (RTD) to include a lecture titled “Ndokwa Nation: Now and the Future” to be delivered by Prof Chike Okolocha, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Benin.

 The conference will also discuss the contributions of Ndokwa Nationalities to national issues such as the proposed National Conference. The approval and ratification of the new name of the union, from Ndokwa National Union to Ndokwa Neku Union, the passage of the new constitution into law, the formation of the youth, women wings and the greater involvement of the clans in the running NNU activities.

 Some other highlights includes the foundation laying stone of the Country Club/Secretariat at Kwale, by the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, display of the rich culture of the Ndokwa People. Recognition and award to deserving indigenes of Ndokwa extraction who have contributed to the development of Ndokwa in one form or the other in such areas as Sports, Public Service, Entertainment, Politics, Education, Business and Entrepreneurship.

 The Conference, which was attended by scores of media houses, during the question and answer session focussed on 2015 and the preparation of the Ndokwa People to take their rightful place in the affairs of the state. The President–General told the gathering that the NNU is ready to pursue the Ndokwa Agenda of liberating the people from total neglect and abandonment by various levels of government despite the large human and natural resources the Ndokwa Nation contributes to the national economy. He pointed out that the fact the area supplies 71.6 percent oil revenue from the nation’s Marginal Fields and still hosts the largest Gas establishment in the West African Sub Region in Okpai, Ndokwa East, and no real development is worrisome. The issue of the last national census and the proposed constituency delineation which, the President says all avenues to correct the overall injustices will be carried out, even if it means going to court to settle some of the burning issues affecting the Ndokwa people.

 

On the 2015 election, the President–General stated that apart from being the second largest ethnic group in Delta State, Ndokwa Land is hosts to five ethnic groups of the Urhobo’s, Ukwuani’s, Itskiris’s, Ijaw’s, Ika’s and thus is an epic centre in the state and a stabilizing force.
