ABUJA/Nigeria: The All Progressives Congress (APC) convened its 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, setting the stage for a sweeping internal recalibration ahead of key off-cycle elections and the 2027 general contest.

Delta North Senator, Ned Munir Nwoko, was among just 21 senators accredited to participate in the high-stakes session, underscoring his growing political weight within the ruling party. Other prominent Delta figures in attendance included Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, APC State Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, and party leader Stella Okotete.

The meeting focused on restructuring party organs ahead of the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial race and upcoming bye-elections. National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, presented what he called a “comprehensive compendium” of reforms aimed at tightening party operations and guiding strategic decisions.

In a key development, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, was ratified as the new APC National Chairman. He was nominated by Governor Hope Uzodimma and seconded by Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, before being adopted by a thunderous voice vote.

With lawmakers like Nwoko and other political heavyweights in the room, analysts see the NEC gathering as a calculated move to shore up internal strength and rally around tested power brokers in preparation for future electoral battles.
