ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko has declared the commencement of admissions into the 2025/2026 academic session at the Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko, calling it “a national vision made manifest.”
In a statement on his official Facebook page, the Delta North Senator and Chancellor of the institution hailed the university’s progress as the product of years of deliberate planning, policy advocacy, and a steadfast drive to empower Nigerian youths through a fusion of education and athletics.
“This university is more than an academic institution,” Nwoko said. “It is the culmination of unwavering efforts to empower Nigeria’s youth through the fusion of education and athletic development.”
Described as the first of its kind in the country, the Sports University of Nigeria offers a wide range of academic and athletic programmes, including football, taekwondo, swimming, and golf. Other areas of study span Mass Communication, Management, Social and Allied Health Sciences, General Sciences, and Architecture.
Admissions into Diploma, Certificate, and Direct Entry programmes have opened, with Nwoko assuring that the school will offer broad access and opportunities for educational and professional growth.
One of the institution’s core features is its mandatory physical training under Category A for all students, which the Chancellor described as essential to building discipline, resilience, and excellence.
“As Chancellor, I have insisted on a holistic approach to education, one that prioritizes moral values, national service, and global relevance,” Nwoko stated. “Our facilities are world-class, our curriculum is forward-thinking, and we are committed to producing graduates who will thrive not only locally but internationally.”
He called on prospective students, parents, athletes, and professionals to take advantage of the opportunity and be part of the trailblazing institution.
“The Sports University of Nigeria is ready. We await your brilliance, your talent, and your dreams,” Nwoko added.
With the motto “A Citadel for Champions,” the university aims to raise a new generation of leaders on and off the field.
