PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has lauded the promotion of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated police officers, Akin Victor Fakorede, to the rank of Commissioner of Police.
In a statement on Friday, Chief Eze described Fakorede’s elevation as a deserving reward for a career built on discipline, patriotism, and outstanding service. According to him, the supercop’s professional trajectory reflects a consistent adherence to global best practices in crime fighting and law enforcement.
Fakorede, who joined the Nigeria Police Force as a cadet in 1992, has carved a reputation for courage and excellence over a three-decade career. He is best remembered for his exploits as Commander of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Rivers State, where he spearheaded successful prosecutions in several high-profile cases and curtailed criminal activities in the oil-rich state. His service later extended to the Inspector General’s Special Monitoring Team, where he led complex criminal investigations with distinction.
A lawyer by training, Fakorede holds a law degree from the University of Calabar, a postgraduate diploma in business management, and a Barrister-at-Law qualification from the Nigerian Law School. These academic achievements, Eze noted, have strengthened his ability to combine professionalism with leadership in the discharge of his duties.
Eze recalled how Fakorede’s uncompromising stance on honest policing in Port Harcourt pitched him against individuals and groups intent on manipulating the Police for selfish ends. He said the officer endured adversities, including delayed promotions, but his perseverance has now been vindicated with his elevation to Commissioner of Police.
“Fakorede’s insistence on professionalism and integrity in policing has earned him both enemies and admirers. Today, his achievements stand as a testament to his resilience, courage, and commitment to justice,” Eze stated.
In addition to celebrating the promotion, the APC chieftain also congratulated Fakorede on his birthday, describing his birth on August 22, 1975, as a blessing to Nigeria. He said the officer remains a “special breed” whose sense of duty struck fear into criminal elements during his days as F-SARS Commander.
According to Eze, Fakorede’s contributions extend beyond crime fighting, as he is also known for his humility, human relations, and compassion for the needy. “He has inculcated discipline, hard work, and leadership among his subordinates, leaving indelible marks on the Force and society at large,” he added.
Chief Eze urged the new Commissioner of Police to remain steadfast in professionalism and service, stressing that his new role provides yet another opportunity to make greater impacts on the Nigerian Police Force and the nation.
