Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

ASABA/Nigeria: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the physical phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Delta State, with two registration centres established in each of the 25 local government areas and an additional one at the state headquarters in Asaba.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Delta State, Sir Etekamba Umoren, disclosed this in Asaba while leading his management team to monitor the first day of the exercise across Oshimili South and Aniocha South local government areas.

Umoren said equipment and materials had been deployed to all designated centres, with trained personnel on ground to ensure a seamless process. He stressed the importance of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) in the nation’s electoral process and urged eligible residents to take advantage of the registration.

“For those yet to register, for those who have misplaced their voter’s card, there is provision for us to replace your voter’s card. For those that have defaced voter’s cards, we can also replace those ones,” he explained.

The Head of Voter Education in Delta State, Mrs. Nseabasi Udom, said the exercise was specifically for citizens who had attained the voting age of 18, first-time registrants, and those who needed to correct or update their information. She clarified that while some updates could be done online, fresh registrants must appear physically for capturing.

A registrant at the Oshimili South centre, Mrs. Blessing Kamkwu, expressed satisfaction with the process, saying, “It is okay to me, because the queue is moving.”

However, another registrant, Mr. Ameachi Desmond, at the Ogwashi-Ukwu centre in Aniocha South, called on INEC to deploy more personnel to registration centres to ease the exercise.
