OTOR-ODU/Nigeria: In a move reflecting the shifting political landscape in Delta State, Senator Ede Dafinone has met with local government chairmen from Delta Central Senatorial District, signaling a renewed effort to build cohesion, collaboration, and effective grassroots governance within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The strategic meeting took place at the Otor-Udu Gas Plant Hotel and was attended by seven of the eight local government chairmen in the district, with the chairman of Ethiope West Local Government being the only absentee.
The engagement followed recent political realignments in the state, which saw former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government chairmen defect to the APC, a development that significantly altered the party’s grassroots leadership structure across the councils.
Sources said the senator considered it necessary to formally engage the chairmen under the new political reality, introduce himself, and establish a functional working relationship capable of strengthening coordination across the district.
According to those present, Senator Dafinone made it clear that the meeting was not merely a courtesy call but a deliberate effort to explore practical areas of collaboration. Discussions reportedly focused on how the local governments and the senator’s office could complement each other in addressing developmental needs within their respective communities.
A major focus of the interaction, it was gathered, was ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach communities across Delta Central, particularly in sectors requiring federal intervention, legislative backing, and policy support.
The senator was also said to have assured the chairmen of his readiness to work closely with the Delta State Governor to align state and federal efforts, ensuring that priority needs identified at the local government level are effectively translated into tangible development projects.
Further findings revealed that the meeting was personally initiated and coordinated by Senator Dafinone following calls from constituents who sought a direct interface between their representative at the National Assembly and local government leadership.
Participants described the atmosphere as constructive and forward-looking, noting a shared understanding that cooperation among the federal, state, and local tiers of government is essential for sustainable development.
Political observers say the meeting signals the beginning of a more structured approach to governance coordination in Delta Central, with Senator Dafinone positioning himself as a key link between local councils, the state government, and the federal government.
