WARRI/Nigeria: The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Comrade Nkem Nwaeke, has called on journalists, particularly those operating in the Warri axis, to sustain constructive working relationships with both the public and private sectors in the interest of responsible governance and professional journalism.
Nwaeke made the call during an unscheduled visit to the newly completed Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Warri Correspondents’ Chapel Secretariat, the High Chief (Dr.) Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo Press Centre, built and furnished by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. He expressed appreciation to the company for the gesture, attributing it to years of good reportage and cordial engagement between journalists and the private sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, Nwaeke congratulated members of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel on the achievement, noting that the new facility had changed the narrative for journalists who previously operated without a purpose-built secretariat. He described the investment as a recognition of the media’s role as a critical democratic institution and urged journalists to continue reporting responsibly.
He said the development was a boost to journalism practice in Delta State and encouraged practitioners to strengthen collaboration with the state government under Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as with credible private sector partners. According to him, the synergy between public leadership and private support that delivered the project should be emulated by other organisations.
Conducting the CPS round the facility, the Chairman of the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Victor Okpomor, thanked Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for its generosity, describing the secretariat as a symbol of professional identity and institutional stability. He noted that the facility would significantly boost journalists’ morale and provide a permanent hub for meetings, workshops and training.
Flanked by the Chapel Secretary, Comrade Edeki Igafe, and other members, Okpomor also commended Nwaeke for nurturing strong ties between journalists and the Delta State Assembly. Journalists present pledged continued cooperation with the Assembly and the state government, while the State Vice Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Council, Comrade Felix Ekwu, who accompanied the CPS, described the visit as a reaffirmation of the importance of collaboration between the media and government in promoting civic trust and good governance.
