ASABA/Nigeria: The All Progressives Congress in Delta State has declared its recently concluded Local Government Congress a success, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and conducted in strict compliance with the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by its National Working Committee.
In a weekend statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party said the congress was held across all 25 local government areas, producing what it called “duly elected and widely accepted” executives at the grassroots level.
According to the party, the exercise marked a historic milestone in its internal democratic process, noting that it was the first time since 2014 that congresses were conducted statewide without disputes or disruptions. The statement attributed the smooth process to what it described as maturity among members, extensive consultations, consensus-building, and adherence to due process.
The APC congratulated the newly elected officials, stating that their emergence reflected the collective will of members and reinforced the party’s commitment to unity, discipline, and internal democracy. It added that the new executives would play a strategic role in strengthening party structures ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.
The party also pointed to the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission as evidence of the transparency and credibility of the exercise, saying their monitoring role underscored the integrity of the process.
Responding to reports alleging parallel congresses and violence in some areas, particularly Ethiope West, the party dismissed the claims as false and misleading, insisting that no such incidents occurred anywhere in the state. It described the allegations as attempts to create confusion and undermine what it maintained was a cohesive and orderly exercise.
The APC also refuted reports of an attack on Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, labeling the claims as media sensationalism. It stated that the lawmaker attended the congress in Ovade-Oghara and departed peacefully, noting that her presence further affirmed that no parallel gathering took place in the area.
Reaffirming its unity, the party said it remains firmly aligned under the leadership of Sheriff Oborevwori, adding that it has achieved more than 95 percent harmonisation across its structures statewide.
The statement concluded with a renewed declaration of support for the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, while urging members to rally behind the newly elected executives and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.
