WARRI/Nigeria: Newly elected National Treasurer of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) worldwide, Double Chief (Comrade) Mulade Sheriff (PhD), has expressed profound gratitude to stakeholders across the Ijaw nation for the overwhelming support that secured his emergence at the April 13, 2026 national elections, describing the mandate as a call to greater service and accountability.
In a statement following his election, Mulade, the Ibe-Serimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, extended appreciation to the outgoing INC President, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, members of the National Executive Council (NEC), the 2026 National Electoral Commission led by His Royal Majesty, Justice F.F. Tabai (Rtd), national delegates, and the entire Ijaw nation for the confidence reposed in him.
He described his victory as a collective achievement, emphasising that the trust placed in him represents not only honour but also a heightened responsibility to serve the people with integrity and dedication.
Mulade pledged to work in close collaboration with other members of the executive council, led by High Chief Macdonald Igbadiwei, Esq., as well as critical stakeholders, to ensure transparency, accountability, and prudent financial management within the congress.
“I am deeply honoured by this mandate and remain committed to upholding the highest standards of accountability in the discharge of my duties,” he said.
The newly elected treasurer assured that he would deploy his experience and capacity to strengthen the INC, while advancing unity, progress, and the overall development of the Ijaw nation.
The renowned environmentalist and peace advocate also reaffirmed his readiness to support initiatives aimed at repositioning the congress and enhancing its role in promoting the socio-cultural and political aspirations of the Ijaw people.
He further outlined a forward-looking vision for the organisation, stressing that the INC must evolve beyond a conventional socio-cultural body into a productive platform that drives economic empowerment.
“It is imperative that the Ijaw National Congress transitions from a conventional socio-cultural organisation to a productive platform, with a special focus on establishing business opportunities for our people and the Niger Delta region at large,” he stated.
Mulade added that such a transformation would include the establishment and launching of INC-driven agricultural ventures, fishing ports, and the creation of corporate and administrative employment opportunities through constructive engagement with multinational companies operating within Ijaw land.
