ASABA/Nigeria: In a renewed push to strengthen coordinated security operations, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, on Monday undertook separate courtesy visits to the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, who noted that the visits form part of ongoing efforts to reinforce inter-agency collaboration in tackling crime across Delta State.
During the engagements, the police boss, accompanied by members of the Command Management Team, stressed that security threats such as kidnapping, armed robbery, human trafficking and drug-related crimes are interconnected and demand a unified, intelligence-driven response.
He commended the Nigerian Army and NDLEA for their continued support to policing efforts in the state, emphasising that no single agency can effectively confront the evolving security challenges alone.
At the NDLEA Command, CP Oyeniyi highlighted the growing link between drug abuse and criminal activities, describing it as a major driver of insecurity, particularly among youths, and called for intensified joint operations to dismantle drug networks.
Responding, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, and the Delta State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Halilu Hamidu, PhD, lauded the Police Command’s efforts and reaffirmed their commitment to sustained partnership.
Both security chiefs underscored the importance of intelligence sharing, joint task operations and institutional cooperation in maintaining law and order, assuring the police of their readiness to strengthen collaboration.
The visits, observers say, signal a deliberate effort by the Delta State Police Command to build stronger operational synergy among security agencies, as authorities intensify strategies to curb crime and enhance public safety across the state.
