ABRAKA/Nigeria: High Chief Sheriff Mulade, Founder of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) and National Treasurer of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), has added a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Relations to his growing profile, sharing the spotlight with his 24-year-old son, David, who earned a Master of Science (MSc) in Mass Communication at the same ceremony.
The rare academic feat unfolded at the 18th Convocation Ceremony of Delta State University, Abraka, for the 2024/2025 academic session, where the father and son were jointly honoured in what observers described as a defining moment of family pride and scholarly accomplishment.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony, David Sheriff Mulade, a practicing journalist with GbaramatuVoice, expressed gratitude to his father for the mentorship and inspiration that shaped his academic journey.
“I am grateful to my father for his constant support and example. This achievement is a continuation of the foundation he has laid, and it will further strengthen my career in journalism and media practice,” he said.
The dual milestone has drawn commendation from associates and community stakeholders, many of whom described it as a historic achievement, particularly within Gbaramatu Kingdom, where such a simultaneous academic success between father and son is considered unprecedented.
High Chief Mulade, a prominent voice in environmental advocacy and peacebuilding in the Niger Delta, has over the years distinguished himself through sustained efforts in promoting justice, community development and conflict resolution.
His latest academic attainment, alongside his son’s success, underscores a shared commitment to education, discipline and continuous self-improvement.
For many, the achievement goes beyond personal success, standing as a compelling example of how education can bridge generations, inspire excellence and reinforce the enduring values of knowledge and service.
