
ASABA/Nigeria: Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, Delta State, has appointed media scholar and Senior Lecturer, Dr Collins Kediehor, as the pioneer Acting Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Registrar of the University, Mrs. Florence N. Nweke, following the approval of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Ovuete Aghalino.
According to the appointment letter dated May 25, 2026, Dr Kediehor will serve as Acting Head of the Department for an initial period of one year with effect from June 1, 2026.
The letter stated that the new Acting Head would be responsible to the Vice Chancellor through the Dean of the Faculty for the general administration of the department as well as the coordination of teaching, research and service delivery.
Before his appointment, Dr Kediehor served as coordinator of the University’s communication programmes, including Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, and Film and Multimedia Studies.
His appointment marks a major milestone in the development of media education at Dennis Osadebay University, as he becomes the pioneer Acting Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.
The elevation comes shortly after the University recorded a major academic achievement with the full accreditation of its communication programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), following over a year of coordination under Dr Kediehor.
A seasoned media scholar with over 15 years of experience in teaching, research and administration, Dr Kediehor specialises in Journalism and Media Studies, Development Communication, Public Relations and Advertising.
Reacting to the appointment earlier, Dr Kediehor expressed appreciation to the University Management and the Vice Chancellor for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to justify the trust by providing effective leadership aimed at repositioning the Department of Journalism and Media Studies and enhancing the visibility of the institution.
The University Management, in the appointment letter, expressed confidence in his ability to discharge the responsibility creditably and urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him.
