ASABA/Nigeria: The Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse with the arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of a large quantity of suspected illicit and controlled substances in Sapele Local Government Area of the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, who said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on activities of suspected drug traffickers operating in the Amukpe area of Sapele.
According to the statement, operatives of the VCRU on May 22, 2026, at about 5:30 a.m., stormed a suspected drug dealers’ hideout in Amukpe during a targeted operation that led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Onyedikachi, 40, and Edna Karaki, 36, both residents of the community.
A search conducted at the location reportedly led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit and controlled drugs, including Tramadol, CSC Codeine, Molly, Swinol, Vagadine, Red Boy, Zaza, Taker and several other substances suspected to be harmful drugs.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of the recovered substances within the area.
The statement further disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to dealing in controlled drugs and are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to unravel the full extent of the operation and identify other members of the suspected network.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across the state.
The police commissioner noted that illicit drug abuse remained a major driver of crimes such as cultism, armed robbery and other violent offences.
He assured residents that the Command would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and strengthening security across Delta State.
CP Oyeniyi also called on members of the public to support the police with credible information, urging residents to report suspicious persons and activities through the Command Control Room on 08036684974 or the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on 09123772889.
