LAGOS/Nigeria: The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has unveiled the ultra-modern “I-GP Kayode Egbetokun Conference Hall” at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, with senior police officers describing the facility as a landmark symbol of visionary leadership, institutional transformation and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
The multi-purpose facility, named after the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, retired I-GP Kayode Egbetokun, was formally unveiled on Friday by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, who initiated the project during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State and saw it through to completion after his elevation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Jimoh described the conference hall as more than a physical structure, saying it represented progress, innovation and the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and administrative effectiveness. He noted that the facility stands as a testament to the transformational leadership and strategic reforms championed by Egbetokun during his tenure as Inspector-General of Police.
“This event is not just about the commissioning and unveiling of a physical edifice, but a celebration of visionary leadership, commitment to institutional development, strategic policing reforms and a legacy that will stand the test of time,” Jimoh said.
According to him, the facility will serve as a hub for operational planning, intelligence sharing, strategic meetings, policy formulation, training programmes, press briefings and collaborative security engagements aimed at strengthening public safety and national security.
Jimoh further praised Egbetokun’s technology-driven policing initiatives and unwavering dedication to modernising the Force, noting that his reforms continue to inspire officers and men across the country. He also acknowledged the contributions of officers, stakeholders and partners whose support ensured the successful completion of the project.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, described the completion of the project as a significant milestone in the history of the command. Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Adesina Lawal, Tijani said the facility was designed to improve operational capacity, personnel welfare and administrative efficiency.
He recalled that the foundation-laying ceremony for the conference hall was performed by Egbetokun on November 7, 2025, while serving as Inspector-General of Police, adding that the facility would provide a conducive working environment for officers while enhancing coordination, effectiveness and service delivery.
Tijani also commended Egbetokun for his support for infrastructural development and institutional reforms across police formations nationwide and urged officers to ensure proper maintenance of the facility so it remains a lasting symbol of professionalism, discipline and service.
Delivering his address, Egbetokun expressed delight at returning to commission the same project whose foundation he laid while serving as the nation’s police chief. He described the conference hall as a legacy project that embodies continuity, vision, leadership and institutional excellence.
The former Inspector-General particularly commended AIG Jimoh for his professionalism, calm disposition and exemplary leadership qualities. He also reflected on Jimoh’s tenure as Lagos Commissioner of Police, recalling how innovative reorientation programmes introduced under his watch improved discipline among officers and enhanced public perception of the police.
Egbetokun further shared a personal experience, recalling how his anticipated posting as Lagos Commissioner of Police in 2019 was unexpectedly reversed shortly before assumption of office, describing the setback as a temporary disappointment that ultimately opened doors to greater opportunities.
“Life has taught me that sometimes our disappointments are not denials; they are simply redirections,” he stated.
He urged younger officers to remain steadfast in professionalism, integrity, patience and dedication to duty, assuring them that honourable service would always be rewarded. He also expressed optimism that the conference hall would become a platform for strategic policing ideas, bold decisions and collaborations capable of advancing security and law enforcement in Nigeria.
The event featured goodwill messages from several retired senior police officers, including former Inspector-General of Police Mike Okiro, former AIG Zone 2 Durosimi Olatoye, former Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni and former AIG Zone 16 Adenola Johnson.
The ceremony also featured the inspection of the facility and the formal unveiling of the conference centre plaque and was attended by serving and retired senior police officers, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, security stakeholders and other distinguished guests.
