Delta Begins June Stipend Payment to 10,000 Widows

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has commenced the disbursement of June 2026 stipends to 10,000 widows enrolled in its welfare scheme, with beneficiaries across the state’s 25 local government areas beginning to receive payments.

The monthly support programme is designed to provide financial assistance to verified widows, offering relief to women facing economic hardship following the loss of their spouses.

The State Coordinator of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, confirmed the commencement of the payments while speaking with journalists in Asaba.

According to him, bank alerts had already started reaching beneficiaries under the first phase of the programme, signalling the commencement of the June payment cycle.

Okonta said the regular release of the monthly stipends demonstrates the state government’s commitment to sustaining the social intervention, which targets vulnerable women across Delta State.

He explained that the scheme has continued to provide financial support to widows, helping to ease some of the economic challenges associated with widowhood.

The coordinator disclosed that only verified beneficiaries are receiving the stipends, noting that the verification exercise carried out across the 25 local government areas was aimed at strengthening the integrity of the programme and ensuring that assistance reaches eligible recipients.

He commended the local government coordinators and community monitors involved in the verification process, describing their contributions as vital to the successful implementation of the scheme.

Okonta also acknowledged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for maintaining the monthly payments, saying the consistency of the programme has enabled thousands of widows to benefit from the state’s social welfare initiative.

He added that the government remains committed to supporting vulnerable residents through programmes designed to improve their welfare and promote inclusive development.
