ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency has commenced an intervention sanitation exercise at Koka Bridge as part of renewed efforts to sustain environmental cleanliness in Asaba.
The operation, which began on February 18, 2026, was executed by the agency’s Environment Unit and involved the removal of indiscriminately dumped refuse, human waste and accumulated sand along the bridge corridor. Officials said the exercise was aimed at restoring hygiene, improving public health conditions and enhancing the aesthetic outlook of the state capital.
The cleanup team was led by the Head of Environment, Isaac Nwosu, who supervised the exercise to ensure thorough clearing of environmental hazards and compliance with sanitation standards.
Speaking on the intervention, the Director-General of the agency, Patrick Ukah, said the initiative aligns with the agency’s statutory mandate to maintain a clean, orderly and environmentally sustainable capital territory. He noted that environmental sanitation remains a core priority of the agency, stressing that the exercise would continue with further evacuation of sand deposits from the axis.
Ukah urged residents, traders and motorists to support government efforts by refraining from indiscriminate waste disposal and adopting responsible sanitation practices, warning that sustained cleanliness requires collective civic responsibility.
He added that the intervention forms part of broader environmental management measures designed to guarantee a healthier living environment for residents of Delta State and to preserve the capital’s status as a model urban centre.
