ASABA/Nigeria: A midnight stop-and-search along the Asaba–Agbor Expressway has blown open what police describe as a major drug distribution ring, with 1,520 packets of suspected prohibited substances intercepted and three suspects now in custody.

The Delta State Police Command, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the breakthrough was recorded under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, as part of intensified intelligence-driven operations targeting drug cartels and violent gangs across the state.

According to the statement, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad were on routine patrol on February 13, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m., when they intercepted a white J5 bus with registration number 7BGT 60LG near Northwest Filling Station along the busy highway.

A detailed search of the vehicle uncovered 1,520 packets of Tramadol and Swinol tablets allegedly concealed beneath company machines in a bid to evade detection.

The driver, Ebuka Dominion, 30, from Aguta LGA of Anambra State, and the motor boy, Emmanuel Terdule, 30, from Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State, were arrested on the spot.

Police investigations later led to the arrest of Peter Etim Akpan, 47, from Nibiaya Uruan LGA of Akwa Ibom State, who is alleged to be the owner of the illicit consignment. Detectives are currently expanding investigations to uncover other members of the trafficking network and possible distribution channels within and outside Delta State.

In a separate sting operation on February 22, 2026, at about 3:20 p.m., operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team apprehended a suspected armed robber and cult member believed to be linked to a series of attacks in Warri metropolis.

The suspect, Collins Darlington, 23, of Ughewughe community in Ughelli South LGA, was arrested at Otor Uweku area of Ughelli town following actionable intelligence and coordinated surveillance.

During interrogation, Darlington reportedly led police operatives to a bush in the Jedo area of Warri, where a locally made firearm buried in the ground was recovered.

Police said the suspect confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity and admitted involvement in multiple door-to-door robbery operations within Warri and surrounding communities.
