
ASABA/Nigeria: Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed all political appointees with ambitions to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive was conveyed in an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, who said the decision aligns with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
Dr. Eze Emu noted that the resignation order affects all categories of political appointees seeking to participate in party primaries or secure nomination for elective offices in the forthcoming elections.
Those affected include Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, Directors-General, Executive Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Personal Assistants to the Governor, as well as all other political office holders within the state government structure.
According to the statement, all affected officials are required to submit their formal letters of resignation through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government on or before the stipulated deadline.
It further directed that outgoing appointees must hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior career officer in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The state government urged all concerned to take note of the directive and ensure strict compliance, emphasizing that the move is in line with legal provisions guiding participation in electoral processes.
