OKPANAM/Nigeria: A prominent community leader, politician and entrepreneur, Anthony Onwuka, has been installed as the Oza of Okpanam Kingdom in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The chieftaincy title was conferred by the traditional ruler of Okpanam Kingdom, Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu, at his palace, in the presence of chiefs of the Ugoani-in-Council and dignitaries from across the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, the monarch described Onwuka as morally upright, academically sound and eminently qualified for the title, citing his consistent passion and commitment to the development of Okpanam community.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, described the new Oza as generous and people-oriented, noting that the large turnout of guests reflected his goodwill and standing in the community. He congratulated Onwuka and prayed for peace and good health for the people of Oshimili.
Earlier, the Ikejani of Okpanam Kingdom, Felix Okafor, described Onwuka as a trusted partner in the growth of Okpanam, saying the title was well deserved. He urged youths to respect elders and constituted authority, adding that the integrity and track record of the new Oza were commendable.
The councillor representing Okpanam in Oshimili North, Eziuchebuogalanya Barry Okonkwo, said Onwuka is a dependable elder brother who genuinely cares about the welfare of the people.
A cousin of the celebrant, Raphael Ebigwei, described Onwuka as unassuming, intelligent and accessible, noting that his recognition by the traditional ruler was timely and well earned.
In an interview with journalists, Onwuka said the Oza title is service-oriented, pledging to use the position to promote peace, unity and development in Okpanam. He urged youths to embrace education and skills acquisition, warning that sustainable prosperity goes beyond land sales.
He also encouraged residents to live right, pursue meaningful livelihoods and grow spiritually in 2026, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him by the traditional ruler and the people of Okpanam.
