OKPANAM/Nigeria: A respected youth leader in Ogbe-Obi Quarters, Okpanam, in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Chinwuokwu Victor Obi, has been conferred with the revered Alor chieftaincy title, promising to contribute meaningfully to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the community.
Chief Obi, now formally addressed as the Azunagbalumili I of Okpanam, gave the assurance at his Ogbe-Obi residence while speaking with journalists shortly after the conferment.
He said his decision to accept the title was driven by his deep respect for tradition, adding that he would strictly uphold the rules and responsibilities expected of Alor title holders in the community. According to him, holding a traditional title requires truthfulness, integrity, and fairness in addressing matters brought before him.
Expressing gratitude to the Alor title holders for deeming him worthy of the honour, Chief Obi noted that sincerity remains the true measure of leadership and the greatest asset of a title holder.
Earlier, Chief Chiwete Odianjor explained that individuals who receive the Nkalor title automatically become elders in Okpanam. He welcomed Chief Obi into the fold, describing him as a man of impeccable character whose humility, peaceful disposition, and commitment to the progress of his people earned him the recognition.
He added that Nkalor title holders play a key role in supporting the elders in maintaining peace and unity within the community.
The celebrant’s wife, Mrs. Ngozi Obi, expressed confidence that her husband would bring wisdom and positive influence to the forum of Mkpalor title holders and to Okpanam in general. She urged him to remain truthful and offer sound counsel always, while praying for God’s blessings, good health, and long life for him.
