ASABA/Nigeria: Security operatives in Delta State have launched a manhunt following a violent attack on police officers at the boundary between Akukwu-Igbo and Ugbolu communities in Oshimili North Local Government Area, prompting the immediate deployment of tactical units to restore order and track down those responsible.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, who said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, ordered swift operational action after the incident was reported.
Police sources said operatives moved in quickly, sealing off flashpoints and carrying out targeted sting operations that led to the arrest of some suspects linked to the attack. The arrested persons are currently in custody and are said to be providing useful information to investigators as efforts intensify to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene.
CP Adesola, in a stern warning, declared that unprovoked attacks on law enforcement officers would not be tolerated, stressing that no extremist, secessionist or violent group would be allowed to operate within Delta State. He assured that the command would deal decisively with any individual or group that threatens public peace or targets security personnel.
Residents of the affected communities have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as operations continue. The police appealed for credible information that could aid ongoing investigations, directing members of the public to contact the command’s control room on 0803 668 4974 or other appropriate channels, while reiterating their commitment to protecting lives, property and upholding the rule of law across the state.
