
ASABA/Nigeria: Operatives of the Buffalo Patrol Team of the Delta State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed men and recovered two pump-action guns loaded with seven live cartridges during a stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba, said the suspects were intercepted during a strategic security operation carried out by officers attached to the patrol team along the busy boundary corridor between Delta and Anambra states.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on May 6, 2026, at about 7:06 p.m. when the operatives stopped a black Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with registration number ABJ 254 CD for routine checks at the Head Bridge axis.
The police identified the occupants of the vehicle as Chukwu Emeka Okeke, 30; Ndudo Tochukwu, 37; and Oraka Kaosiso Chukwu, 34.
Edafe explained that acting on reasonable suspicion, the operatives conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, during which two pump-action guns and seven rounds of live cartridges were allegedly recovered from the suspects.
The three suspects were immediately taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits, while preliminary investigations commenced.
The police spokesperson stated that the suspects and the recovered weapons remained in police custody as investigations continue to unravel the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers for their swift action and commitment to duty.
The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain proactive policing strategies and intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling the movement of illegal arms and other criminal activities across the state.
He also assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify efforts toward ensuring public safety and strengthening security across Delta State.
