ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on violent crime with the arrest of a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and the recovery of a locally made pistol during a routine patrol in Ozoro.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement in Asaba, said the suspect, identified as Friday Oghenemaro, was apprehended by operatives attached to the Ozoro Division on February 9, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m.

According to the statement, the arrest was made during a proactive township patrol along Hospital Road, Ozoro, as part of intensified visibility policing across the state. The police team reportedly intercepted the suspect, who was said to be in the company of two other individuals now at large.

A search conducted on Oghenemaro led to the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol concealed in his possession. He was immediately taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down his fleeing accomplices.

Preliminary investigation, the police said, revealed that the suspect is a member of the Aye confraternity. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed that he had been in possession of the firearm since his secondary school days, claiming he kept the weapon because of his membership in the cult group.

The Command said investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of his involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities within Ozoro and its environs, as well as to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the arrest as a reflection of the Command’s renewed operational drive against criminal elements.

He reiterated that the Command would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations, targeted patrols and sustained visibility policing to deny criminals any safe haven in the state.

The police boss also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and support security agencies with credible and timely information, stressing that collective cooperation remains vital in sustaining peace and security across Delta State.
