AWKA/Nigeria: The 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 orientation programme of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) commenced in Anambra State with the swearing-in of over 2,300 prospective corps members, marking the beginning of a new service year for young graduates posted to the state.

Disclosing this at the orientation camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area, the State Coordinator of the scheme, Pauline Ojisua, said the cohort comprises 1,080 males and 1,220 females, adding that adequate logistics and facilities had been put in place to ensure a seamless exercise.

Ojisua described the orientation course as a critical foundation for national service, explaining that participants would undergo a three-week programme focused on discipline, patriotism, teamwork and leadership development.

She noted that activities such as drills, physical training and sporting engagements are structured to build resilience, mental alertness and a sense of unity among corps members.

The coordinator also underscored the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative, which she said is designed to equip corps members with practical skills for self-reliance beyond the service year.

She congratulated the participants on their successful mobilisation and urged them to adhere strictly to camp regulations and security guidelines, while conducting themselves as responsible ambassadors of their institutions and families.

Ojisua further commended the Anambra State Government for its consistent support to the NYSC scheme, particularly in the areas of welfare and security.

In his remarks, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by Mr Ifeatu Emeodi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, charged the corps members to serve diligently and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading facilities at the orientation camp to ensure a safe and conducive environment for corps members.

The oath of allegiance was administered by the State Chief Judge, Justice O. M. Anyachebelu, represented by Justice A. O. Nwabunike, formally inducting the corps members into national service.
