EKPAN/Nigeria: The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has been honoured by the Urhobo people for what was described as his effective and people-centred legislative representation in the Senate.

The Urhobo People Integrity Organisation (UPIO) conferred an Integrity Award on the senator at its 2025 awards ceremony held on Monday at Bon Hotel Hyatt, Ekpan, Delta State.

The event brought together prominent Urhobo stakeholders to recognise public office holders whose actions, according to the organisers, have delivered measurable benefits to the Urhobo nation.

President of UPIO, Ebenezer Okorodudu, said the honour was in recognition of Senator Dafinone’s “immeasurable contributions to the growth and advancement of the Urhobo nation.” He specifically cited the senator’s pivotal role in restoring peace to Okuama Community following the military crisis, as well as his intervention that led to the release of the Clement Ikolo, the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom.

To underscore the significance of the senator’s peace-building efforts, the award was presented on behalf of UPIO by the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom himself and received by Senator Dafinone’s Chief of Staff, Adelabu Bodjor.

In an appreciation message conveyed at the ceremony, Senator Dafinone described the recognition as “a motivation to do more for the Urhobo people at all levels,” assuring UPIO of his continued partnership and support. He reaffirmed his commitment to people-focused representation anchored on peace-building, justice and sustainable development across Urhoboland.

The ceremony was chaired by the President General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Ese Gam Owe, and was attended by prominent Urhobo sons and daughters from across the state, underscoring what organisers described as broad-based validation of the senator’s legislative impact and leadership.

In his remarks, Olorogun Ese Gam Owe commended Senator Dafinone for what he called purposeful and effective representation at the National Assembly, urging him to sustain efforts at promoting and protecting Urhobo interests. He also called on all Urhobo sons and daughters, at home and in the diaspora, to unite and work collectively for the progress and development of the Urhobo nation.
