ABUJA/Nigeria: The campaign for the creation of Anioma State gathered fresh momentum on Thursday as Senator Ned Nwoko led a high-powered delegation of traditional rulers, political leaders and key stakeholders to a strategic meeting with the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin.

The visit marked a critical phase in the renewed push for constitutional approval of the proposed state, with proponents intensifying efforts to consolidate national support and advance the initiative through legislative processes at the National Assembly.

Addressing the Deputy Senate President, Nwoko emphasised that the demand for Anioma State transcends personal ambition, describing it as a unified, people-driven movement rooted in the collective aspirations of the Anioma people. He noted that the proposal has consistently been presented before the National Assembly, backed by sustained engagement with lawmakers and deliberate inclusion in ongoing constitutional amendment discussions.

The senator further highlighted the growing prominence of the Anioma cause, attributing it to deliberate advocacy, expanding public awareness and increasing acceptance across different levels of governance. He stressed that the delegation’s visit underscored a coordinated and determined push toward actualising statehood.

In his response, Senator Barau Jibrin commended the delegation for its unity and disciplined engagement, describing their approach as constructive and firmly grounded within constitutional provisions. He acknowledged the complexities surrounding state creation in Nigeria, noting that success would depend on extensive consultations, broad political consensus and strict adherence to legislative requirements.

Jibrin particularly lauded Nwoko’s persistence in sustaining the Anioma State conversation at the national level and assured the delegation of institutional support within the limits of his office. He pledged fair consideration of the proposal and encouraged continued nationwide engagement to build the critical consensus necessary for progress.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional institution, the Obi of Ubulu-Unor, His Royal Majesty Henry Kikachukwu, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and assurances given, describing the meeting as a strong demonstration of unity and shared commitment among the Anioma people.

Other monarchs, including His Royal Majesty Charles Anyasi, Obi of Idumuje-Unor, and His Royal Highness Michael Ogbolu, Obi of Okpanam, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting what they described as an unprecedented level of cohesion across Anioma communities and reaffirming their collective resolve to pursue the state creation agenda.

The delegation departed the meeting with renewed confidence, expressing optimism that sustained advocacy, strategic alliances and unified action would propel the Anioma State proposal further within the constitutional amendment process.

The engagement ended on a clear note of determination, with stakeholders agreeing that continued dialogue, stronger collaboration and unwavering unity will shape the path toward the realisation of Anioma State.
