ASABA/Nigeria: Determined to avoid internal fractures and strengthen its electoral machinery, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Friday met behind closed doors in Asaba to forge consensus on congresses, e-registration and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 political showdown.

The high-level stakeholders’ meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Asaba, brought together key party figures and focused on unity, digital registration and strategic preparedness for forthcoming party congresses and future elections.

Addressing party leaders and members, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said leadership derived its legitimacy from the people and must be guided by humility, empathy and selfless service. He urged stakeholders to place collective interest above personal ambitions, resist division and avoid unnecessary conflicts, stressing that unity remained the party’s greatest asset.

The governor said meetings of the nature offered opportunities to review progress, strengthen party structures and prepare for critical political milestones, adding that mobilisation, registration and active participation would ultimately determine electoral success.

While charging party leaders to deliver massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, Oborevwori said the volume of votes delivered by the party in the state would determine its strength and influence at the federal level.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, urged members to remain focused as the party approached its congresses, commending the progress recorded in the e-registration exercise and the growing diversity of the party. He cautioned against rumours and delays, called for early engagement and consensus-building at the grassroots, and advised continuous dialogue to reduce tension.

Immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, thanked Governor Oborevwori for convening the meeting and described his visit to Government House after many years as a gesture of inclusiveness. He pledged to work in unity with the governor and other stakeholders to further strengthen the APC in Delta State.

Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, commended stakeholders for their unity and sustained engagement, urging intensified grassroots mobilisation to deepen the e-registration exercise by taking it to homes and communities. He emphasised inclusiveness and consensus in the conduct of the forthcoming congresses, praised Governor Oborevwori’s role in fostering harmony and urged party leaders to return to their constituencies with renewed commitment.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Felix Morka, lauded the governor’s leadership and the digitalisation of the party’s membership register, recommending a consensus approach in the conduct of the congresses.

In his welcome address, the State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, said the party had recorded over 90 per cent realignment since April 2025, describing the gathering as evidence of growing unity and momentum within the party.

On e-registration and congress preparations, Delta North APC Chairman, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka, reported relative peace in the district but highlighted challenges associated with registration. Delta Central Chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, said Okpe Local Government was leading statewide and appealed for restraint pending the release of official guidelines, while Delta South Chairman, Prince Austin Oribioye, urged the resolution of technical glitches to enable the state meet its targets.

The State E-Registration Coordinator, Prince Fred Mordi, said Delta State had been selected to host the South-South zonal training and reported rising registration figures despite minor challenges, expressing confidence that the state would meet its target before the deadline.

The meeting observed a minute of silence in honour of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate, as party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to unity and a coordinated strategy ahead of the decisive political battles of 2027.
