NNU Leadership Defends Record, Announces Town Hall Meetings on Ndokwa Development

Ndokwa National Union (NNU)

KWALE/Nigeria: The President General of the Ndokwa National Union (NNU), Comrade Chief Amechi Asugwuni, has defended the performance of the current leadership of the union, reaffirming its commitment to sustained dialogue with government and renewed grassroots engagement on key development issues affecting the Ndokwa nation.

In a statement issued on behalf of the National Executive Council of the NNU, Asugwuni said the leadership had remained consistent in engaging critical stakeholders and advancing the collective interests of the people since assuming office less than one year ago.

He disclosed that the NNU leadership, in November and December 2025, held consultations with the Minister of Power and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, adding that the outcome of those engagements was published and widely commended by members. He said further engagements were already being planned for the first quarter of 2026.

“It will amount to a discreditable lack of gratitude for anyone to say that NNU promised dialogue and there’s no dialogue,” he said, warning against what he described as deliberate attempts to mislead the public and blackmail the leadership under the guise of political ambition.

On the agitation for the creation of Anioma State, Asugwuni said the issue was exhaustively deliberated during the 2025 Ndokwa Annual General Conference held on December 30, 2025, noting that many of those now raising the matter were absent from the meeting. He assured that the NNU would continue consultations with relevant stakeholders to secure the best possible outcome for the people.

The NNU president general also announced plans to convene town hall meetings across the three Ndokwa local government areas to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the nation’s advancement, including the step-down of the Okpai Independent Power Project, oil quantum review, moral values, security, leadership and accountability.

He said the present leadership had engaged grassroots communities, stakeholders and traditional rulers more extensively than any previous administration, stressing that the team was still less than one year in office.

Asugwuni appealed to the Ndokwa people to support and encourage the union’s leadership, urging unity and discipline in the pursuit of collective progress.

“The assignment is enormous and it requires focus, consistency and collective dedication to achieve success,” he said, while calling on members to promote a culture that would allow the NNU to succeed in the interest of all.
