ASABA/Nigeria: Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to Senator Ned Nwoko, has outlined a sweeping catalogue of projects attracted and executed by the lawmaker in two and a half years, describing a development drive that is already reshaping Delta North Senatorial District.
In a comprehensive briefing, Dr. Nwoko said the senator’s interventions span healthcare, infrastructure, water resources, power and human capital development, reflecting a deliberate strategy to combine social welfare with long-term economic growth across the district.
Healthcare, he said, remains one of the senator’s flagship priorities. The first phase of a large-scale medical outreach in November 2023 reached more than 200 beneficiaries in Idumuje Ugboko, Agbor and Umusan, where residents received free consultations, specialist care, surgeries and medications. A second phase in September 2024 treated over 600 patients at health centres in Idumuje Ugboko and Umuagu, Asaba, with services ranging from surgeries to the distribution of free drugs and eyeglasses.
To strengthen frontline healthcare, Dr. Nwoko disclosed that modern medical equipment was distributed in December 2024 to selected primary health centres in Idumuje Ugboko, Umuagu Asaba, Agbor and Umusan in Kwale.
On security and economic activity, the aide said the senator attracted and commissioned solar streetlight projects across key communities, including Kwale, Idumuje Ugboko, Idumuje Unor, Onicha Ugbo and Asaba, enhancing night-time safety and commerce.
Water security has also featured prominently in the senator’s agenda. Dr. Nwoko said solar-powered water schemes have been constructed and commissioned in Umunede and Idumuje Ugboko, providing clean potable water through renewable energy and reducing dependence on diesel and generators.
He added that the long-abandoned Ogwashi-Uku Dam project has been revived with critical maintenance works completed, while the remaining reticulation phase is expected to supply water to more than 60 communities. A new dam project in Aniofu, Aniocha North, has completed feasibility studies and is being processed for inclusion in the 2026 Appropriation Bill to support irrigation and year-round farming.
On road infrastructure, Dr. Nwoko said the senator facilitated the rehabilitation of the Benin–Asaba Expressway from Alifikede to the Onitsha Head Bridge, reopening a strategic corridor that had become nearly impassable and restoring connectivity between Delta North and the eastern flank of the country.
The aide disclosed that new economic frontiers were also being opened through the proposed coastal road from Asaba-Oko through Okpai-Aboh to Patani, now captured in the NDDC budget, as well as renewed efforts to complete the Okpai Power Plant step-down project.
Human capital development, he said, has empowered more than 1,000 constituents through phased empowerment programmes launched in November 2023 and expanded in 2024, benefiting youths, women and farmers with training and financial support.
Dr. Nwoko said many ongoing projects were captured in the 2025 budget and expressed confidence that full implementation would deliver “melodramatic changes” to the district.
“With the scale and spread of these interventions in just two and a half years, Senator Ned Nwoko is setting a new benchmark for representation in Delta North,” he said, adding that the people would urge the senator to return for a second term to consolidate the transformational agenda.
