LAGOS/Nigeria: Thousands of Okpe indigenes resident in the South-West geopolitical zone are set to converge on Lagos on Sunday, December 28, 2025, for the 2025 end-of-year festivity of the Okpe Union, aimed at promoting Okpe civilisation, history, language and cultural heritage.

In a statement issued in Lagos, the South-West Deputy President-General of the union, Francis Redemi, said the event was designed to project Okpe civilisation, culture and humanism to the global community while strengthening unity among indigenes.

According to the statement, the festivity underscores the enduring values of the Okpe people and the collective responsibility of leaders and stakeholders to preserve the heritage of the Okpe Kingdom for future generations.

“The people of Okpe today, particularly its leaders, owe a duty to their ancestors and to generations yet unborn. It is our responsibility to support our people, including the provision of bursaries for Okpe indigenes across Nigeria,” the statement said.

Redemi noted that the gathering would foster brotherly cooperation among Okpe indigenes resident in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states, adding that the event would be a rich display of Okpe heritage and shared identity.

“We are concerned about the past, mindful of what is happening today and deliberate about what should happen tomorrow, all geared towards making the future of Okpe Kingdom happier and more prosperous,” he stated.

The event is scheduled to commence at 3:00 pm at the Okpe Union House, No. 65 Moshalashi Street, Obalende, Lagos.

The statement emphasised the importance of education to the future of the Okpe Kingdom, stressing the role of the union in creating opportunities that enable Okpe youths to enjoy a fulfilling and productive life.

“Okpe children deserve quality education. We must plan for the future and act on a broader plane of ideas to secure it,” the statement added.

It also highlighted the need for respect for the institutions and traditions of the Okpe Kingdom, positive thinking, constructive action and sustained efforts by Okpe leaders to uplift students in tertiary institutions.

According to the statement, the 2025 ceremony reaffirms the commitment of Okpe indigenes to preserving ancestral identity, promoting academic excellence, supporting the next generation of Okpe leaders and strengthening unity within the kingdom.
