The management of Platform Petroleum Limited (PPL) has commenced the implementation of contents of the new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered into recently with the four host communities of Adonishaka, Umutu, Akoku and Umousele.
In a recent meeting held on July 17, 2014, the company and representatives of the host communities agreed to the implementation of the MoU for the mutual benefit of both parties. The meeting addressed one of the fundamental issues of the MoU, which is on capacity building Management. According to a press release from the company, the management has decided to be more involved in the process, especially in the area of selection of those that will undergo the manpower training.
The press release stated that the process of selecting the beneficiaries, as agreed with the communities should not be shrouded in secrecy, which results in beneficiaries selling off their starter-packs after graduation. This the company said would not allow to happen again, and to see to a successful Human Capital Development, the company, the communities and the NGO’s will jointly oversee the implementation of the process.
The company through the community Affairs/HSE manager, Mr Godwin Alumona pleaded with the communities that people should not be selected due to family ties but rather people who are interested in opening their shops after receiving the starter packs.
The meeting also agreed that the training program should run at the same time in all the host communities.
Meanwhile, the first installation payment of the N18 million annual contributions to the communities had been released as part of the implementation of the new MoU. Each community was given N9 million each for the first 6 months as agreed in the new agreement. This amount of money will enable them to direct carry out development projects in their communities
