ASABA/Nigeria: The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria has condemned the recent wave of deadly attacks in Plateau State, describing the killings as barbaric and calling for immediate, coordinated action to halt the escalating violence.
The Chairman of the Conference, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, in a statement, expressed deep concern over the loss of lives, widespread displacement and trauma suffered by affected communities, warning that the situation requires urgent national attention.
In the statement made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Government in addressing security challenges but emphasised that a multi-stakeholder approach is critical to effectively contain the crisis.
He stressed that the safety and dignity of every Nigerian must remain paramount, urging improved synergy between federal and state security agencies, with a stronger reliance on local intelligence to prevent further attacks.
Guwor, who is also the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, maintained that the security and welfare of citizens are non-negotiable, noting that targeted interventions would help mitigate the impact of the ongoing violence.
The Conference Chairman also extended sympathies to victims of the attacks in Plateau State, calling on government institutions, security agencies and community leaders to work collaboratively to restore peace and stability in the affected areas.
He reaffirmed the Conference’s commitment to supporting legislative measures that promote peace, justice, security and inclusive governance across the country.
