Eze at 68: Gratitude, Tributes and a Call for National Unity

PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has returned thanks to God for His faithfulness, grace and protection as he marks his 68th birthday, describing the past year as one of divine preservation despite challenges and adversities.

Eze said the past 365 days came with opportunities and trials that enabled learning, unlearning and relearning, adding that God remained faithful to His covenant with him and his family. He expressed deep appreciation to his wife, Ada Chioma Eze, and his children for their unwavering support, prayers and sacrifices.

He also thanked friends, associates, media aides and partners for standing with him in what he described as a collective struggle to reshape national consciousness and project a better future for Nigeria, stressing that unity and the election of visionary leaders remain critical to national rebirth.

Eze paid special tribute to his principal and associate, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, thanking him for steadfast support over the years, and acknowledged Tonye Princewill for his personal support, particularly during his years in Port Harcourt.

He also praised his political mentor, Atiku Abubakar, who, in a goodwill message, described Eze as “a restless democrat” committed to responsible leadership, adding that he is a journalist of repute, prolific writer, philanthropist, media consultant and advocate of good governance. Atiku wished him “many happy returns” and prayed for more years in good health and service.

On national politics, Eze said the movement to rescue Nigeria was gaining momentum, urging key opposition figures to unite ahead of 2027. He noted that his only birthday gift from Nigerians would be unity of purpose to enthrone compassionate and visionary leadership, insisting that the country must not continue on its current path beyond May 29, 2027.

The birthday celebration attracted a flood of goodwill messages from family members, political allies, clerics, associates and journalists.

His first child, Monica Eze-Elechi, described him as “a pillar of strength and a blessing to generations,” praying for divine health, peace and renewed strength. His mother and daughter, Pharm. Eunice Chukwuemeka-Eze, thanked God for preserving his life, describing him as generous, fearless and dependable, and prayed that God would continually shield and bless him.

His daughter and mother-in-law, Celine Chukwuemeka-Eze, thanked him for his sacrifices and prayers, praying for sound health, joy and strength. A close ally, Humble Ojukwu, wished him good health and prosperity, while Prince Tonye Princewill prayed that God’s grace would abide with him.

Other goodwill messages came from Dr. Mrs. Chime E. Agu, Bishop Fola, Hon. Azubuike Princewill, Mrs. Grace Patrick, Mum C. Erhen, Barr. Osima Ginah, Barr. Vitalismary Unachukwu, journalist Samuel Idaye and Comrade Brighten Chukwu, all praising Eze’s courage, generosity, intellect and commitment to democracy, and praying for long life, good health and continued impact.

Born on January 1, 1958, in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Eze is a philosophy graduate of the University of Calabar with postgraduate training in public administration. A journalist, prolific writer, media consultant and political strategist, he is widely known for his outspoken commentaries on governance, democracy and leadership.

A devout Christian and elder in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Eze remains a vocal advocate of good governance and democratic accountability as he clocks 68.
